Jamie Carragher believes that Arsenal have the best opportunity to win the Premier League this season since their last lifted the top-flight trophy back in 2004.

The Gunners find themselves in second place in the table and level on points with leaders Manchester City after 11 games.

Now is the time for Arsenal to seize the initiative

Arsene Wenger’s men host Tottenham Hotspur at Emirates Stadium on Sunday afternoon as they look to return to winning ways following their humiliating 5-1 loss to Bayern Munich in the Champions League in midweek.

And former Liverpool defender Carragher feels that the north London side must step up to grab their first real opportunity to lay down a marker for the rest of the season by beating their local rivals at The Emirates.

Carragher wrote in the Daily Mail: “There can be no hangover. Arsenal are on the brink of an early exit from the Champions League after being humbled in Munich but their disappointment cannot fester.

“It was a bad night, one of the worst Arsene Wenger and his squad have experienced, but they must not allow it to wreck their season. Something significant, after all, is in their sight. A group-stage elimination might actually play into their hands and make them champions of England again.

“This is the best chance Arsenal have had to win the title since 2004, up there with 2007-08 when they crumbled at Birmingham and William Gallas sulked on the pitch.

“Now is the time for Arsenal to seize the initiative as they could be waiting a long time for another golden opportunity.”

Spurs head into Saturday’s game in fifth place in the table and five points off the leaders on the back of their 2-1 Europa League win over Anderlecht on Thursday.
