Jamie Redknapp makes bold prediction about Everton defender

Jamie Redknapp has been thoroughly impressed by what he has seen from John Stones of late

Jamie Redknapp believes that John Stones has all the makings of a future England captain.

The Everton defender, who was a summer transfer target for Chelsea, started Tuesday night’s friendly win over France alongside Gary Gahill and looked comfortable as Roy Hodgson’s men secured a 2-0 win at Wembley.

The 21-year-old has been a regular fixture in the Everton team this season and has started 10 Premier League games for the Merseyside outfit so far this term.

And former Tottenham and Liverpool midfielder Redknapp feels that Stones has the potential to develop into a key player for England in the years to come.

Redknapp wrote in his column for the Daily Mail: “England have got such a special talent in John Stones and I think he is a future captain. I loved when he stepped out from the back and glided past three France players.

“He lost the ball eventually but Roy Hodgson should be encouraging him to play like that. If he was Spanish or French they would get him to do it all the time.”

Stones will be expecting to feature when Everton return to Premier League action this weekend with a home clash against Aston Villa on Saturday at Goodison Park.

The Toffees are currently ninth in the top flight table after 12 games of the season.
