Jan Molby: Why Jurgen Klopp needed to rescue Jordon Ibe
Liverpool legend Jan Molby says Jordon Ibe was running the risk ofd disappearing at Anfield
Jan Molby says Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has rescued Reds starlet Jordon Ibe.
The 19-year-old forward scored a brilliant 72nd-minute winner to seal a 1-0 victory over Rubin Kazan in Russia in the Europa League on Thursday night.
Ibe needed just a few simple instructions to get him back on track, and is now having an impact whether it’s from the bench as at Chelsea, or with his impressive winner at Rubin Kazan
Ibe’s 20-yard strike was his first goal in 30 appearances for Liverpool after the England Under-21 international became a first-team regular last term.
However, Ibe had started just two Premier League games this term under Klopp’s predecessor Brendan Rodgers after struggling to rekindle his best form.
But former Liverpool midfielder Molby believes the 48-year-old German has transformed Ibe into a new players in recent weeks.
“Looking at Jordon Ibe earlier this season, he appeared a player in need of help,” Molby told Liverpool Echo.
“I’ve seen it happen many times before with youngsters.
“When Ibe burst on to the scene, he got people talking and it was clear he has talent, is strong, quick and appears mature beyond his years.
“But then all of a sudden he began to get lost in the games.”
Molby added: “Now, as the player himself said, he is a new player.
“Ibe needed just a few simple instructions to get him back on track, and is now having an impact whether it’s from the bench as at Chelsea, or with his impressive winner at Rubin Kazan.
“In some ways, he has been rescued by Jurgen Klopp.
“The winger is positive in his movement now and is always pressing forward, and it’s amazing the confidence you can gain from putting opponents on to the back foot.”
Ibe has scored one goal in three Europa League appearances this season.
The Liverpool forward made his first assist of the campaign as Ibe teed up Christian Benteke in a 3-1 victory over defending Premier League champions Chelsea last weekend.
