Manchester United youngster Jesse Lingard says it was a dream come true to score his first Red Devils goal
Jesse Lingard says it was a dream come true to score his first Manchester United goal in Saturday’s 2-0 win against West Bromwich Albion.
The Red Devils scored their first Premier League goal since 17 October after youngster Lingard netted a fine effort in the 52nd minute for the hosts.
Afterwards it was just pure happiness, especially with my family being here too
The former Birmingham City midfielder has become a key part of United’s side in recent weeks in the absence of injured left-back Luke Shaw.
And United finally secured three points when Juan Mata dispatched from the spot-kick after West Brom defender Gareth McAuley fouled Anthony Martial in the 90th minute.
The 22-year-old United goal-scorer admitted that his confidence is sky high since manager Louis van Gaal placed his faith in the youngster.
“Yeah, it was [a dream come true],” Lingard told United’s website.
“I have been a bit rash with my finishing recently, but to be composed in that situation was good and I am glad it went in. It was a really happy moment for me in my career.
“Afterwards it was just pure happiness, especially with my family being here too. My mum, dad, brother and girlfriend were all in the crowd and they’re all United fans too – they’re all really proud of me.
“I’m definitely growing in confidence. The manager has put faith in me to start some really important games so my confidence is obviously sky high.”
Lingard has scored one goal in four Premier League appearances in all competitions for United this season.
The 22-year-old has also made an assist in two Champions League games.
