Johnny Giles: Why Tottenham’s ‘outstanding’ Harry Kane had a slow start
Johnny Giles heaps praise on Tottenham Hotspur's in-form Harry Kane
Johnny Giles has hailed Tottenham Hotspur striker Harry Kane as a really outstanding footballer.
The England international has scored a remarkable nine goals in his last six games in all competitions for the north London side.
He is a good type of lad. He isn’t selfish. He is the best English forward at the moment
Kane took his tally to 10 goals in 19 games in the Premier League and Europa League after his winner in a 1-0 victory over Qarabag in Azerbaijan on Thursday night.
The young PFA player of the year scored just one goal in his first 13 games before his recent flurry, with some branding Kane a one-season wonder.
However, former Manchester United and Leeds United midfielder Giles believes Kane was tired from the European Under-21 championship in the summer, but is confident the Spurs man can continue his recent form.
“Kane is outstanding,” Giles told Newstalk’s Off The Ball.
“He had a bad start to the season. I think that was down to the European Under-21 tournament. He is still quite young and he needs a rest. Before you know it, the season has started again. You’re not quite as bright.
Giles continued: “He is a really outstanding player. He is a big lad, very mobile, his control is good, he has a good football brain and he is scoring the goals again.
“He is a good type of lad. He isn’t selfish. He is the best English forward at the moment.”
Kane has netted seven times in his last four Premier League games for Mauricio Pochettino’s side.
Spurs are four points behind Premier League leaders Leicester City.
