Jose Mourinho didn’t want Chelsea signing Pedro, claims ex-Man United man
Johnny Giles believes Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho didn't want to sign Pedro Rodriguez
Jose Mourinho didn’t want to sign Chelsea forward Pedro Rodriguez in the summer, according to Johnny Giles.
The Spain international appeared to be heading to Manchester United after chief executive Ed Woodward flew out to Barcelona to conclude a deal for the World Cup winner.
However, the Red Devils ended their interest in the 28-year-old forward before Chelsea swooped in and completed a £21m deal for the three-time Champions League winner.
But former Manchester United midfielder Giles isn’t convinced Mourinho wanted to sign the Barcelona legend.
“Pedro was for sale for quite a long time and Manchester United made a mess of it,” Giles told Newstalk’s Off The Ball.
“Chelsea went in on the last day of the transfer window. I don’t think Pedro was ever Mourinho’s player.
“They had to do something because they left it so late.”
Pedro has scored one goal and has made one assist in seven Premier League appearances this season.
The summer signing came off the bench on Wednesday night as Chelsea secured a late 2-1 victory over Dynamo Kyiv in the Champions League.
Chelsea make the trip to Stoke City on Saturday evening just weeks after the Blues crashed out of the League Cup at Britannia Stadium.
