Jose Mourinho says Tottenham Hotspur are capable of winning Premier League title

Jose Mourinho has endorsed Tottenham Hotspur as Premier League title contenders.

The north London side are five points behind Premier League leaders Leicester City ahead of the visit of the defending champions at White Hart Lane on Sunday afternoon.

If they say they are fighting for the title, I would not laugh. I would accept it because the team is very good

Tottenham are unbeaten in their last 12 Premier League games following their 4-1 win against London rivals West Ham United last weekend.

Mauricio Pochettino’s side are 10 points ahead of Mourinho’s Chelsea side ahead of Sunday’s meeting.

Speaking at his pre-match media conference on Friday, Mourinho discussed increasing talk of Tottenham winning the Premier League this season.

“When I watch them play it’s not a surprise for me,” said the Blues boss, whose side have endured a woeful start to their title defence,” Mourinho said.

“If they say they are fighting for the title, I would not laugh. I would accept it because the team is very good.”

Chelsea won two of their three meetings with Tottenham last season, including a 2-0 victory over the north London side in the League Cup final.

However, Spurs were 5-3 winners at White Hart Lane on New Year’s Day thanks to Harry Kane’s impressive hat-trick.
