Jose Mourinho runs rule over Chelsea’s ‘magnificent’ Willian
Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho heaps praise on Blues midfielder Willian
Jose Mourinho has heaped praise on Chelsea’s magnificent Willian ahead of their trip to Stoke City on Saturday evening.
The Brazil international was the west London side’s match-winner after the South American’s brilliant free-kick sealed a 2-1 victory over Dynamo Kyiv in the Champions League mid-week.
When you’re the match winner with a really special shot, it is no question the praise is fair. The boy is magnificent
Willian has been one of Chelsea’s more consistent players in all competitions this season after a return of five goals in 14 appearances for Mourinho’s side.
And the Chelsea manager, who will be serving a stadium ban when the defending champions take on Stoke on Saturday, is pleased with the 27-year-old’s improvement.
“He is playing very well,” Mourinho told his pre-match media conference at Cobham training ground on Friday afternoon.
“In this moment, he is surrounded by other players who are playing very well.
“To be fair to him, there was a period in the season when sometimes I felt he was a bit isolated from the general contest. At this moment, he is in the middle of the positive contest which is a team playing well.
“When you’re the match winner with a really special shot, it is no question the praise is fair. The boy is magnificent.”
The Brazilian playmaker has scored two times in 10 Premier League games for the defending English champions this season.
Willian has also made two assists in all competitions, although he was unable to prevent Chelsea from suffering a 3-1 defeat by Liverpool last weekend.
