Juan Mata discusses Cristiano Ronaldo’s potential return to Man United
Juan Mata feels that it is unlikely Manchester United would be able to re-sign Cristiano Ronaldo from Real Madrid
Juan Mata believes that it is unlikely that Manchester United will be able to re-sign Cristiano Ronaldo from Real Madrid in the coming months.
The Red Devils have long been linked with a move to bring the Portugal captain back to Old Trafford after he left the Premier League club for a world-record fee back in the summer of 2009.
Ronaldo himself has made no secret of his affection for his former club and has refused to rule out the possibility of a return on numerous occasions.
However, although Mata is a keen admirer of the Ballon d’Or winner, the Spaniard feels that it is unlikely Ronaldo will make a return to the club.
Mata told Goal: “I think it’s difficult for that to happen, in truth.
“The respect and admiration that the people (in Manchester) have for Cristiano is incredible. You see it at the training ground, at the stadium, with so many photos of when he won all those titles there and did so well on a personal level as well.
“But it’s complicated with him at a club like Real Madrid and happy there, which I think he is. He is a player who makes the difference in any league, obviously.
“But as it’s very complicated at the moment, I prefer to focus on the players who are here, on playing well and achieving the club’s objectives.”
Mata will be expecting to feature when United return to Premier League action with a trip to Watford after the international break on Saturday lunchtime.
The Red Devils are currently fourth in the top-flight table and two points off leaders Manchester City.
