Juan Mata has underlined his belief that Manchester United are capable of winning the Premier League this season.

The Red Devils bounced back to winning ways in the top flight with a 2-0 win over West Bromwich Albion at Old Trafford on Saturday afternoon after their goalless draw with Crystal Palace last weekend.

The win left United fourth in the table and a point behind local rivals and leaders Manchester City, who take on Aston Villa on Sunday.

And Mata, who netted United’s second goal against the Baggies from the penalty spot, feels that Louis van Gaal’s side have come through a tough period unscathed.

Mata told MUTV: “Let’s see about that one, as there are still too many games until the end of the season [to judge]. We have to take it game by game.

“It was a difficult month for us with some tough games, but I think we are still in the position to do it.

“Now we have to focus on the national team and then we have a lot of games in late November and December and we have to be at our best level.”

United’s next game is a trip to Watford after the international break on Saturday 21 November.

Mata has been a regular fixture in Van Gaal’s first team this season, with the 27-year-old scoring four goals and making three assists in 12 Premier League games this term.
