Jurgen Klopp: Why Jordan Henderson is right choice for Liverpool captain
Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp says England international Jordan Henderson is an absolute leader
Jurgen Klopp says he has no doubts that Jordan Henderson is the right choice for Liverpool captain.
Klopp’s predecessor Brendan Rodgers appointed Henderson as Reds skipper after club legend Steven Gerrard left Anfield for MLS outfit LA Galaxy in the summer.
The 48-year-old had the opportunity to hand the captain’s armband to another player following his appointment as the Northern Irishman’s replacement in October.
However, former Borussia Dortmund manager Klopp was impressed by Henderson’s leadership skills, backing the England international to make a return from injury in the near future.
“I did not have one second of a doubt about this,” Klopp told his pre-match media conference.
“I don’t know who made the decision, maybe the team, I didn’t ask because it is logical for me.
“I’ve met him and he is absolutely a leader. We all hope he’s back in a few weeks. And of course Hendo stays captain.”
The Reds captain is currently sidelined after the midfielder had to undergo an operation following a fractured bone in his foot.
Henderson hasn’t featured for the Reds since a 1-0 victory over Bournemouth at Anfield in the Premier League in August.
Liverpool face Alan Pardew’s Crystal Palace side at Anfield in the Premier League on Sunday afternoon.
