Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp delivers the latest update on Daniel Sturridge's injury setback
Jurgen Klopp says Liverpool will have to wait and see to assess the extent of Daniel Sturridge’s latest injury setback.
The England striker suffered a new setback after a foot problem in training ruled him out of the Reds’ clash with Bordeaux in the Europa League on Thursday night.
Sturridge, who missed most of last season through injury and underwent hip surgery in the summer, was hoping to make a return on Thursday from a knee problem which has kept him out since 4 October.
However, the England international has been sent for a scan after complaining of discomfort in a foot.
Speaking in his post-match news conference after Liverpool’s 2-1 win at Anfield on Thursday night, Klopp said: “I don’t know too much about the situation because it was in the afternoon after training.
“It wasn’t a situation I saw because we trained in two groups – the starting line-up and the other players. We can now start thinking about it, because we had no time, it was really close to the game when the news came.
“We had Cameron Brannagan in the hotel with us, a 19th man if something happened. Something happened, so we had 18 again. But there is no news – at the moment we have to wait.”
Goals from James Milner and Christian Benteke handed Liverpool victory over Bordeaux.
Liverpool, who are currently ninth in the top-flight table, now turn their attentions back to the Premier League and their home clash with Swansea City at Anfield on Sunday afternoon.
