Klopp delivers latest Liverpool injury update ahead of Palace clash
Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp says Philippe Coutinho has a minor hamstring injury ahead of Crystal Palace clash
Jurgen Klopp has revealed Liverpool playmaker Philippe Coutinho has a minor hamstring problem.
The Brazil international was an unused substitute in Liverpool’s 1-0 victory over Rubin Kazan in the Europa League in Russia on Thursday night.
Everyone told me he was fit and he could play but I’m not a great believer in these things
Coutinho has been in impressive form in recent weeks after he scored twice in a 3-1 victory over defending Premier League champions Chelsea at Stamford Bridge last weekend.
Liverpool manager Klopp attempted to play down the severity of Coutinho’s injury concern ahead of the visit of Crystal Palace on Sunday afternoon.
“I didn’t want to risk Philippe because he had a little bit of a hamstring,” Klopp told his post-match media conference.
“Everyone told me he was fit and he could play but I’m not a great believer in these things. I didn’t want to risk it.”
The 23-year-old has scored three times in 10 Premier League games this season.
Coutinho has also made two assists in the English top-flight.
The South American midfielder is still waiting to open his account in the Europa League this season.
Coutinho moved to Liverpool in an £8.5m deal from Serie A side Inter Milan under Klopp’s predecessor Brendan Rodgers.
