Ander Herrera and Phil Jones will miss the trip to Leicester City in the Premier League on Saturday, Louis van Gaal confirmed as he delivered the latest Manchester United injury update on Friday morning.

Spanish midfielder Herrera has been out of action due to a hamstring injury picked up during the 2-1 win over Watford at Vicarage Road last weekend.

England international Jones was also forced off with an ankle problem in the same game, and Van Gaal has confirmed that the duo will both miss Saturday’s trip to the King Power Stadium.

Asked about Herrera and Jones, Van Gaal told MUTV on Friday morning: “I cannot say that because these kind of injuries you cannot predict.

“I don’t think it is weeks, but I think within two weeks one of the two can come back. But I don’t know, you can never predict that, because injuries are unpredictable.”

Van Gaal were boosted by the returns of Wayne Rooney, Anthony Martial and Marouane Fellaini for their goalless draw with PSV Eindhoven in the Champions League in midweek, with the trio also set to be available for Saturday’s game.
