Laurent Koscielny has told his Arsenal team-mates that they are capable of winning the Premier League this season – but only if they become more consistent.

The Gunners have enjoyed a positive start the to campaign and currently find themselves in second place in the top flight and level on points with leaders Manchester City after 12 games.

Arsenal are yet to win the title since their famous unbeaten triumph back in 2003-04.

However, Koscielny feels that the current Gunners side are capable of ending the north London club’s wait for the main domestic prize, as long as they are able to perform at the highest level every week.

Asked if this could be Arsenal’s year in the league, Koscielny told the Arsenal magazine: “It could be.

“If we can reproduce regularly the first 20 minutes from the Manchester United game, yes we can have the ambition of being champions. But if we play like against Olympiacos, we won’t even finish in the top four.

“We have a good squad, a lot of quality. We need to be consistent, though, to win the league. It’s a marathon. Every weekend, we have tough games.

“We need to have the same desire and ambition in each of them, even if we know we can’t be at our best all the time. But we need to be solid defensively and efficient offensively to win 1-0 when we’re not at our best.”

Arsenal return to Premier League action with a trip to West Bromwich Albion on Saturday afternoon.

The Gunners were held to a 1-1 draw by Tottenham in their most recent top flight outing at Emirates Stadium.
