Lee Dixon wants to see this man replace Francis Coquelin for Arsenal
Lee Dixon says Gabriel Paulista could be the man to fill in in defensive midfield for Arsenal in the coming weeks
Lee Dixon has suggested that Arsene Wenger should consider using Gabriel Paulista in the defensive midfield position for Arsenal following Francis Coquelin’s injury setback.
The French midfielder has been ruled out of action for at least 12 weeks after picking up a medial knee ligament injury during the 2-1 loss to West Bromwich Albion last weekend.
Wenger has the likes of Mathieu Flamini and Mikel Arteta as possible candidates to replace Coquelin in the holding midfield position heading into the hectic festive schedule.
However, former Arsenal star Dixon says that Gabriel could be suited to the role.
Dixon told BreatheSport: “Arsenal’s biggest disappointment over the last few weeks is the injury to Coquelin.
“Coquelin getting injured was always going to happen at some point, he’s done extremely well in that holding role. Can they fill that gap? Can Chambers maybe get a chance in that position?
“I’d like to see Gabriel in there, I think he could do a really good job, but I’ve got a feeling we are going to need him at centre-back.”
Arsenal return to Premier League action with a trip to Norwich City in the top flight on Sunday afternoon.
The Gunners bounced back from their loss to West Brom last weekend with a convincing 3-0 win over Dinamo Zagreb in the Champions League on Tuesday night thanks to goals from Mesut Ozil and Alexis Sanchez.
