Liverpool legend makes prediction about Wayne Rooney’s season at Man United

John Barnes is convinced that Wayne Rooney will rediscover his scoring touch for Manchester United in the coming weeks

John Barnes believes that Wayne Rooney will score at least 15 goals for Manchester United this season despite the striker’s stuttering start to the campaign.

The England captain has come in for criticism in recent weeks after only managing to score two goals in the Premier League for Louis van Gaal’s men.

The 30-year-old forward has netted a total of seven goals in all competitions this term as he has struggled to find the net on a regular basis for the Red Devils.

However, former Liverpool forward Barnes is fully backing Rooney to turn his patchy form around in the lead-up to next summer’s Euro 2016 tournament in France.

Asked how many goals he thinks Rooney will score this season, Barnes said on BT Sport: “More than 15.

“I think he will once Manchester United find their feet and start to play in a different way.

“I love Wayne. He’s my favourite English player and I think he’ll score more than 15.”

Rooney will be expecting to feature when Manchester United return to Premier League action with a trip to Watford on Saturday lunchtime after the international break.

The Red Devils are currently fourth in the table and two points behind the leaders Manchester City.
