Liverpool legend: Why Arsenal will win the Premier League this season

John Barnes is confidently backing Arsenal to win their first Premier League title since 2003-04 this season

John Barnes is backing Arsenal to end their long wait for the Premier League by winning the title this season.

The Gunners have enjoyed a positive start to the new campaign and are currently joint-top of the table, level on points with leaders Manchester City after 12 games.

Questions continue to be raised about Arsenal’s ability to sustain a genuine title challenge for the duration of the season.

However, Liverpool legend Barnes believes that Arsene Wenger’s men are more than capable of lifting the top-flight trophy this season.

Asked who he thinks will win the title this season, Barnes told BT Sport: “Arsenal.

“I think this is Arsenal’s best chance and I always feel that Man City have a bit of a soft spot when they get to March.

“If they are playing well then everything is going well. But when the going gets tough they will drop silly points.

“But Arsenal will really feel, with the demise of Chelsea that this is their best chance.”

FA Cup holders Arsenal return to Premier League action with a trip to West Bromwich Albion after the international break on Saturday 21 November.

The Gunners came from a goal down to earn a 1-1 draw with bitter local rivals Tottenham Hotspur in the Premier League last weekend at Emirates Stadium.
