Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp plays down Premier League title talk

Jurgen Klopp pours cold water on talk of Liverpool winning the Premier League title

Jurgen Klopp has poured cold water on talk of Liverpool winning the Premier League title this season.

The Reds are nine points behind joint leaders Manchester City and Leicester City ahead of Sunday’s clash against Swansea City at Anfield.

We have to use our situation in good moments and to accept our situation in bad moments – and then to work. That’s all we can do. Let’s see where we are in May or June. I don’t even know when the season ends!

Liverpool were 4-1 winners against title favourites City at Etihad Stadium last weekend to secure back-to-back away wins against Chelsea and Manuel Pellegrini’s side.

Klopp led Borussia Dortmund to Bundesliga glory in 2011 and 2012 before BVB lost to rivals Bayern Munich in the Champions League final at Wembley in 2013.

However, the Liverpool manager refused to discuss the prospect of the Merseyside outfit ending their 25-year top-flight drought.

“I have a little bit of experience with winning titles – not the biggest but a little. So I know what helps and what doesn’t – and what doesn’t help is to talk about things you have no influence on,” Klopp is quoted as saying by The Mirror.

“We are eight points behind Leicester and six points off fourth place. We’ve only played most teams once and we can only take three points from each game, so we just need to keep on working.

“We have to use our situation in good moments and to accept our situation in bad moments – and then to work. That’s all we can do. Let’s see where we are in May or June. I don’t even know when the season ends!”

Liverpool are six points behind fourth-placed Arsenal ahead of their clash against Garry Monk’s Swansea City side on Sunday afternoon.

The Reds have only lost once in 10 games in all competitions since Klopp took over the reins at Anfield in October.
