Liverpool midfielder thrilled with Jordan Henderson and Daniel Sturridge comebacks
James Milner praises Liverpool for securing three points in difficult conditions
James Milner hailed the return of Jordan Henderson and Daniel Sturridge after the pair came off the bench in Liverpool’s 1-0 victory over Swansea City.
The Liverpool vice-captain edged the home side into a 1-0 lead from the penalty spot after Neil Taylor was adjudged to have handled Jordon Ibe’s cross.
Henderson hasn’t featured for the Reds since a 1-0 win against Bournemouth in the second games of the season, but the Reds skipper replaced Roberto Firmino in the second half.
Daniel Sturridge’s pain threshold was called into question earlier this week after he suffered a fresh injury, but the striker replaced Christian Benteke in the final 10 minutes.
And Milner, who moved to Liverpool from Manchester City in the summer, was delighted to see the Liverpool pair back on the pitch.
Milner told BBC Sport: “It was brilliant to see them (Henderson and Sturridge) out there as they are big misses when they are out.”
On the home side’s victory, Milner added: “It wasn’t the prettiest of games. It was important to win.
“The win last week against Manchester City would have been a waste if we had not won.”
The Reds are six points behind leaders Manchester City and Leicester City following their 1-0 win against Garry Monk’s Swansea side.
