Liverpool star hands Reds a timely boost ahead of Man City clash
James Milner is hoping to make a return from injury when Liverpool take on Manchester City after the international break
James Milner has handed Liverpool a boost by revealing that he is optimistic of being fit to return to action against Manchester City after the international break.
The midfielder missed the Reds’ 2-1 defeat by Crystal Palace at Anfield on Sunday due to a hamstring injury, which has also kept him out action for England during the international break.
However, Milner has now confirmed that he is making steady progress in his rehabilitation and could well be in contention to feature when Jurgen Klopp’s men travel to the Etihad Stadium after the international break.
Milner told Liverpool’s website: “It’s always disappointing to miss any games – and obviously missing last weekend and the England games is disappointing.
“It shouldn’t be too long and hopefully I’ll be back for the next game [at City], but we’ll have to wait and see.
“You never like to put a timeframe on it because it’s a hamstring and they’re always difficult and a bit unpredictable, but hopefully I’ll be alright.
“It’s disappointing, but these things happen and hopefully I’ll be back soon.”
Liverpool head into their clash with the Premier League leaders looking to return to winning ways in the top flight.
Their defeat by Crystal Palace last weekend was their first under new manager Klopp and left them in 10th place in the Premier League table and nine points behind Manuel Pellegrini’s league leaders.
