Liverpool striker discusses what qualities he can offer Jurgen Klopp
Liverpool star Divock Origi talks up his versatility after making his Reds debut last month
Divock Origi believes his versatility can be an asset to Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp.
The Belgium international was handed his first Premier League start for the Reds in Klopp’s first game in charge after Origi helped Liverpool secure a battling goalless draw at Tottenham Hotspur last month.
I still have a lot of things that I can show to the fans here. One of my attributes is that I can carry the ball and take on defenders in one-on-ones with my pace
The 20-year-old striker also started against Rubin Kazan and Southampton before he dropped to the bench following Christian Benteke’s return from an injury problem.
However, injuries to Danny Ings and Daniel Sturridge have provided Origi with the chance to get more game time under his belt following his summer move to Anfield.
And the Belgium striker insists that he is happy to play in whatever role is required of the former Lille man.
Origi told Liverpool’s website: “One of my qualities is that I am versatile so I can play as one of two strikers, three strikers, on the wing or upfront as the main forward.
“When you are upfront you are closer to the goal and can potentially score more often so I would say I prefer this position.
“But I am young and I will play wherever the coach needs me. It was nice to see the change in tactics and I can adapt.
“I still have a lot of things that I can show to the fans here. One of my attributes is that I can carry the ball and take on defenders in one-on-ones with my pace.
“Setting up the goal for Adam Lallana [against FC Sion] was a nice moment and I feel that I am improving my game every time I get on the pitch.”
The Reds signed Origi in a £10m deal from Lille in 2014 following the World Cup before the striker was loaned back to the Ligue 1 side.
