Liverpool transfers: Jurgen Klopp will attract top players, insists ex-Spurs man
Jermaine Jenas claims top players will take a risk on Liverpool due to Jurgen Klopp
Jermaine Jenas believes world-class players will be willing to take a gamble on a move to Liverpool thanks to Jurgen Klopp.
The Reds have struggled to attract top-class players to Anfield in recent season after missing out on Real Madrid midfielder Toni Kroos and Manchester United winger Memphis Depay.
They believe Klopp will get the best out of them, which could help them attract players in January and beyond
Liverpool have inevitably been linked with a move for a number of Borussia Dortmund players following Klopp’s appointment in October, including Marco Reus and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang.
And Jenas, who played for Newcastle United and Tottenham Hotspur, discussed Klopp’s pulling power ahead of the January transfer window.
“The Klopp factor could also be extremely useful to the Reds in the transfer market. Liverpool have been very quickly slipping down the list of clubs in top players’ options,” Jenas told Yahoo Sport.
“After they lost Sterling and Suarez, other top players would have asked themselves whether Anfield was the place they wanted to spend their prime years – and the answer would have been no.
“But now, those players will take a risk on Liverpool because they believe Klopp will get the best out of them, which could help them attract players in January and beyond.”
The Reds are also reportedly monitoring Bayern Munich striker Robert Lewandowski.
Liverpool were 4-1 winners against Manchester City at The Etihad on Saturday evening thanks to Eliaquim Mangala’s own goal and strikes from Philippe Coutinho, Roberto Firmino and Martin Skrtel.
The Reds are six points behind fourth-placed Arsenal in the race for a Champions League place.
