Liverpool are set to go all out to try to sign Leroy Sane from Schalke this January, according to retired footballer and journalist Jan Aage Fjortoft.

The Reds were linked with a move for the highly-rated 19-year-old attacker during the summer transfer window but a move failed to materialise.

Jurgen Klopp is understood to be on the lookout to bolster his attacking options at Anfield during the January transfer window as he bids to guide the Reds to a top-four finish in his first season in charge at the Merseyside outfit.

And Fjortoft is expecting Liverpool to make an official offer to sign the striker during the forthcoming January transfer window.

Fjortoft tweeted:

Sane has been in fine form for Schalke so far this season. He has already scored four goals and notched up three assists in 12 Bundesliga appearances for the German outfit.

Liverpool slumped to a 2-1 loss to Crystal Palace at Anfield on Sunday afternoon.
