Louis van Gaal delivers the latest injury update on Luke Shaw as the Manchester United defender recovers from a broken leg
Luke Shaw will undergo a scan on Friday to provide an update about the Manchester United defender’s recovery from his broken leg, Louis van Gaal has revealed.
Shaw has been out of action since September after he suffered a double fracture of his leg after a heavy clash with Hector Moreno during United’s 2-1 loss to PSV Eindhoven in the Champions League.
The left-back’s recovery is understood to be progressing well, with the England international now walking without crutches.
With PSV set to visit Old Trafford for the return Champions League game on Wednesday night, Van Gaal was asked about Shaw’s recovery in his pre-match news conference.
And the United boss provided a positive injury update when asked about Shaw’s fitness.
Asked about Shaw, Van Gaal told his pre-match news conference: “It is going very good with him but it’s also difficult for him because now the progress is not as much as in the beginning.
“Now, sometimes, he is fed up with the situation and I can imagine that. So I give him now, for example, a few days off because I don’t think the memories of PSV are good for him.
“I wondered if he was fed up because maybe it was the match against PSV and every player has to watch the game in the stadium to support their fellow players.
“So I have given him time off but, on Friday, he has a scan and then we will know more about the injury and how it is going.”
United return to Premier League action this weekend with a trip to surprise leaders Leicester City on Saturday, knowing that a victory would move them top of the table.
