Manchester United manager Louis van Gaal heaps praise Jesse Lingard after his first Red Devils goal
Louis van Gaal says Jesse Lingard deserved his first Manchester United goal after the Red Devils were 2-0 winners against West Bromwich Albion.
The Red Devils scored their first goal in three Premier League games in the 52nd minute thanks to United midfielder Lingard’s first goal for the 20-time English champions.
I’m very happy for him, he deserves it because I think he played very well. I’m a happy manager today

United had failed to win their last two Premier League outings but Juan Mata sealed three points from the penalty spot on the stroke of full-time after Anthony Martial was fouled by Gareth McAuley.
And Van Gaal, whose side are in fourth place in the Premier League table, heaped praise on the 22-year-old midfielder.
“Of course, it was again a fantastic goal because Jesse Lingard scored his first goal today,” Van Gaal said in his post-match media conference.
“In the training session earlier this week, he had these chances but shot directly, I told him to control the ball first because with that touch you have more of a feel of the ball – he did today it and scored a fantastic goal.
“I’m very happy for him, he deserves it because I think he played very well. I’m a happy manager today.
“We played three games in a row without scoring a goal, though we had more than enough chances. That’s why you look for solutions and one of those was to bring Jesse into the team.”
Lingard completed 90 minutes of their 2-0 victory over the Baggies at Old Trafford on Saturday afternoon.
The Red Devils stay in fourth place but move to within a point of leaders Manchester City in the Premier League table.
United make the trip to Watford in the Premier League next Saturday.
