Lucas Leiva: Why Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has given me new energy
Liverpool midfielder Lucas Leiva runs rule over Jurgen Klopp's impact
Lucas Leiva says Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has given the Brazilian a new lease of life at Anfield.
The South American appeared to be heading for a move away from the Merseyside outfit in the summer after falling out-of-favour under Brendan Rodgers.
However, injury to Jordan Henderson has provided Lucas with the chance to re-establish himself as Liverpool’s first-choice defensive midfielder.
The Brazil international has started all four of Klopp’s four Premier League games in charge of the 18-time English champions since October.
And the 28-year-old lifted the lid on Klopp’s impact at Anfield since he took over the reins from Rodgers following the Merseyside derby.
“I believe the arrival of Klopp gave me new energy, new fuel. He showed that he has confidence in me,” Lucas told Globoesporte.
“I have learned a lot with him. He’s very demanding, but he has clear ideas about football.
“I’ve done well with him this first month. He’s a very direct guy, but is very open also. We feel close, knowing that he’s the boss. We have to follow his lead.”
Lucas has made 10 Premier League appearances this season.
The South American has also featured in two Europa League games.
Liverpool are in tenth place in the Premier League table and 14 points behind leaders Manchester City ahead of their trip to Etihad Stadium next weekend.
