Manchester City

Joe Hart The England number one was powerless to prevent Liverpool’s opener. He was nutmegged by Coutinho as the visitors doubled their lead and could do little about the next two, either. He may have conceded four, but Hart prevented Liverpool from racking up a rugby score with some excellent second-half saves. 7/10

Bacary Sagna Dispossessed by Coutinho despite the mismatch in size in the build up to Liverpool’s opener. The French defender couldn’t cope with the threat coming down his wing. 5

Aleksandar Kolarov Perhaps the least culpable of City’s back four for a horror opening 30 minutes. 6

Eliaquim Mangala Bizarrely attempted to play offside in his own area before he deflected Firmino’s cross past his own goalkeeper. Didn’t show any authority as Coutinho added a second for the hosts. It didn’t get much better for the Frenchman in the second half, either. 3

Martin Demichelis The Argentine looked lacklustre. A lack of understanding with Mangala led to Coutinho’s goal. His lack of desire was startling given the size of the fixture. 3

Yaya Toure The powerful Ivorian couldn’t provide any resistance to a Liverpool insurgence in the first half. The 32-year-old was replaced at half-time. 4

Fernando The Brazil international was swamped by Liverpool’s nimble midfielders, whilst he was guilty of being careless in possession. 4

Raheem Sterling The former Liverpool forward didn’t influence the game as he would have wanted, with the travelling Reds jeering the £49m man. 5

Jesus Navas A poor pass created further danger for City after Mangala’s own goal. Unsurprisingly replaced at half-time. 4

Kevin De Bruyne He was City’s liveliest player in an otherwise disappointing first-half performance. He couldn’t spark a comeback. 5

Sergio Aguero Gave City a lifeline with superb curling finish. Couldn’t beat Mignolet after Milner’s mistake. 7

Fernandinho He provided energy in midfield, but Liverpool still cut open the City defence on a few occasions in the second half. 6

Fabian Delph Reinforced a struggling City midfield. 6

Kelechi Iheanacho N/A

Simon Mignolet Powerless to prevent Aguero’s game just before half-time. A great recovery save to deny the Argentine after Miner’s mistake. 8

Nathaniel Clyne Good clearance under pressure from Sterling. He limited Sterling to half chances. 7

Alberto Moreno The Spanish left-back tamed his former Sevilla team-mate Navas. A good performance. 7

Dejan Lovren Even at 3-0, confidence-sapped Lovren had a loose touch will almost resulted in a Manchester City goal. He also handled the ball in his own area but escaped punishment. 5

Martin Skrtel A tad fortunate to escape punished after he went to ground to tackle Aguero. Scored a brilliant half volley to seal three points. 8

Lucas Leiva Predictably, Lucas was booked as he attempted to break up play. The 30-year-old gave his attacking-minded team-mates license to push forward and punish City. 6

Emre Can Bounded around The Etihad like an enthusiastic Labrador. But he was not to be outshone by his Brazilian team-mates going forward as Can superbly back-heeled into Coutinho’s path for Liverpool’s third. Unfairly booked in the second half.7

James Milner Missed a good chance from the edge of the area. A reckless back-pass almost result in City’s second. 6

Philippe Coutinho (Man of the match) The Brazilian superbly dispossessed Sagna in the lead up to Mangala’s own goal. Scored his fourth goal in four games with a cool finish from close range in 23rd minute. Selflessly teed up Firmino for Liverpool’s third. Had the ball in the net in the second half but ruled out for offside. His injury was the only blotch on a near-perfect performance. 9

Roberto Firmino His cross was deflected into the net by Mangala. Excellent work to capitalise on confusion between Demichelis and Mangala and a delightful pass to find Coutinho. Scored his first Premier League in 31st minute. Firmino wasted great chances for a second either side of half-time. 9

Adam Lallana Couldn’t time his runs to stay onside with Liverpool picking apart Man City defence. A good performance but outshone by Coutinho and Firmino. 7
