Alexandre Pato has handed Manchester United a boost in their reported pursuit of the Brazilian by declaring his desire to play in England or Spain next season.

The former AC Milan star, who is on loan at Sao Paulo from Corinthians, has been touted as a target for both United and West Ham in recent weeks.

The 26-year-old does not expect to make his loan move at Sao Paulo permanent and has now revealed his desire to move to the Premier League or La Liga.

Pato told Radio Globo by Soccer News: “Next year I won’t be playing at Sao Paulo, everybody knows that.

“I hope England or Spain.

“I do not know if I can stay with Corinthians. I just try to do as well as possible. In football nothing is certain, so it’s no problem to return to Corinthians. I am a professional.”

Louis van Gaal is thought to be keen on bolstering his attacking options at Old Trafford following the Red Devils’ failure to score a goal in their last three outings in all competitions.

The Red Devils have now gone more than five hours without scoring a goal after their 0-0 draw with Crystal Palace in the Premier League on Saturday afternoon.
