Man United transfers: Inter Milan goalkeeper’s agent confirms interest
Samir Handanovic's agent confirms Manchester United wanted the Inter Milan goalkeeper in the summer
Manchester United wanted to sign Inter Milan goalkeeper Samir Handanovic in the summer transfer window, according to the shot stopper’s agent.
The Red Devils were linked with a host of goalkeepers in the transfer window as David De Gea appeared to be edging towards a move to La Liga giants Real Madrid.
However, the United number one’s proposed move to Los Blancos collapsed on Spain’s transfer deadline day and the 24-year-old goalkeeper signed a new long-term deal at Old Trafford.
But Handanovic’s agent Federico Pastorello has revealed that Louis van Gaal had lined up the Inter Milan goalkeeper as a replacement for De Gea.
“All I know is that [he] was an alternative to David De Gea in case of departure of the latter,” Pastorello is quoted as saying by Daily Mirror.
“Now [he] is preparing to extend its fight with Inter and he is very happy.”
De Gea has returned to his best form for United in the Premier League this season after he was named the club’s player of the year for his performances in the 2014/15 season.
The Spain international had to be in top form as he helped United secure a 1-0 victory over CSKA Moscow in the Champions League on Tuesday night.
