Man United transfers: Louis van Gaal needs to sign striker, says ex-Red Devils captain
Former Manchester United captain Ray Wilkins says the Red Devils require reinforcements up front
Ray Wilkins says Manchester United need to sign a striker in the January transfer window.
The Red Devils limped to a 1-0 win over CSKA Moscow in the Champions League on Tuesday night after captain Wayne Rooney scored a 79th minute winner.
Maybe United need to look at the situation, but the right player has to be available
The captain’s header was United’s first goal in four games after the Red Devils had failed to get on the score sheet since a 1-1 draw in Moscow last month.
And former United midfielder Wilkins, who won the FA Cup with the Red Devils in 1983, believes manager Louis van Gaal needs attacking reinforcements in the next transfer window.
“Do they need to add in January? Everybody needs to add in January,” Wilkins told Sky Sports.
“When you think of the strikers that are left – Javier Hernandez, Danny Welbeck, Robin van Persie and Radamel Falcao – they have let so many go without bringing too many in.
“Maybe United need to look at the situation, but the right player has to be available.”
United signed France international Anthony Martial on transfer deadline day in the summer after the teenager completed a £36m move from Ligue 1 side Monaco.
The 19-year-old has scored five times in nine games in all competitions for the 20-time English champions so far this season.
