Mark Lawrenson runs rule over Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp
Former Liverpool defender Mark Lawrenson heaps praise on new Reds manager Jurgen Klopp
Mark Lawrenson says Jurgen Klopp really gets Liverpool.
The Reds manager secured his first Premier League win on Saturday afternoon after a 3-1 victory over defending champions Chelsea at Stamford Bridge.
The Merseyside outfit hoisted themselves up to seventh place in the Premier League table following their first win in four top-flight outings.
Former Liverpool legend Lawrenson heaped praise on Brendan Rodgers’s successor after the Reds’s dominant performance against the west London side.
“They have really taken to Jurgen Klopp at Liverpool. He gets the club and the history,” Lawrenson told BBC Sport.
“It is about the progression of the side. They are pressing the opposition. They kept the ball well but didn’t do too much with it for 40 minutes.”
The former Republic of Ireland centre-half added: “The key to the game was the goal just before half-time, which shellshocked Chelsea. If he was your manager you would want to play for him.”
Philippe Coutinho cancelled out Ramires’s opener at Stamford Bridge before the Brazilian edged Liverpool into a second-half lead.
Substitute Christian Benteke sealed three points with a close-range finish to take his tally to four goals in eight Premier League games.
Liverpool are in seventh place and four points behind fourth-placed Manchester United ahead of their clash against Crystal Palace at Anfield next weekend.
