Martin Keown has warned Chelsea that Tottenham Hotspur could be set to do some “real damage” when they host the Blues at White Hart Lane on Sunday lunchtime.

Chelsea head into this weekend’s game looking for a positive result to kick-start their season after a disastrous start to their title defence under Jose Mourinho.

The west London side are languishing in 15th place in the Premier League table and are currently 14 points behind leaders Leicester City after 13 games.

Spurs, meanwhile, continued their recent fine form with a 4-1 thrashing of West Ham United last weekend to move to within four points of the top of the table.

Chelsea secured a 1-0 win over Norwich City at Stamford Bridge last weekend and thrashed Maccabi Tel-Aviv 4-0 in the Champions League on Tuesday night.

And former Arsenal defender Keown is predicting a thrilling clash at White Hart Lane in Sunday’s London derby.

“Historically, this has always been a very good fixture for Chelsea but I think that’s changed and Tottenham could do some real damage this weekend,” Keown wrote in the Daily Mail.

“If Tottenham have designs on the top four then they need to look at this as an absolutely crucial game. They are reaching consistency in their results and performances and a win could finish off Chelsea’s aspirations of making the Champions League.

“Tottenham will have to work hard mentally to overcome that obstacle [of playing on Thursday] and if they want to win they must start really well against Chelsea. It should be a cracking game.”
