Mathieu Flamini reacts to Santi Cazorla’s penalty miss for Arsenal
Mathieu Flamini refuses to blame Santi Cazorla for Arsenal's loss to West Bromwich Albion
Mathieu Flamini refused to blame Santi Cazorla after the Spaniard missed a late penalty during Arsenal’s 2-1 loss to West Bromwich Albion on Saturday.
The playmaker had the chance to equalise for the north London side in the 90th minute at the Hawthorns but slipped as he kicked the ball and blazed his effort over the bar.
The defeat meant that the Gunners were unable to capitalise on other results and missed the chance to move top of the Premier League table.
However, Flamini was philosophical about the dramatic end to the game, and felt that the north London side had done enough to earn at least a point against Tony Pulis’ men.
“The penalty, it can happen and Santi falling… there is nothing you can do,” Flamini told Arsenal Player. “We tried and tried and tried until the last minute but we can’t give any excuses – today we lost the three points.
“It’s a shame because we started the game well, we went 1-0 up and then after they scored [twice] before half time it became more difficult for us.
“We tried to push on in the second half, we had some opportunities but of course it is disappointing because we didn’t get any points.
“Sometimes it happens and now it is important to recover and focus on the next game.”
Arsenal now turn their attentions back to the Premier League and their home clash with Dinamo Zagreb in the Champions League on Tuesday night as Arsene Wenger’s men look to rescue their European campaign.
