Memphis Depay makes promise to Man United supporters
Memphis Depay promises Manchester United fans that he is working harder than ever on improving his form
Memphis Depay has promised Manchester United supporters that he is working harder than ever to get back to the top of his game following his difficult start to life at Old Trafford.
The Netherlands international has failed to produce consistent performances for Louis van Gaal’s men since joining the club from PSV Eindhoven during the summer.
Depay was left on the bench for United’s 2-0 win over West Bromwich Albion in the Premier League last weekend and has only scored one goal in eight top-flight games so far this season.
However, despite his recent dip in form, Depay insists that he is fully focused on forcing his way back into United’s starting line-up.
Depay told NOS: “Of course, it’s difficult when you’re on the bench but it’s going better right now and it’s also going better on the training pitch. So, if I get my chance to play, I will take it.
“I think lots of things changed. I’m in a new club right now and it’s a different level compared to the Dutch league.
“Such things are playing a big role when you’re trying to find your way and it was a bit easy at the start but then I fell back and you could see it in the way I played.
“However, you can assume I’m busy with working on that and getting back to the top. I feel fit and I’m trying to show on the training ground that I’m doing my best to perform well.”
The 21-year-old has made a total of 14 appearances in all competitions for Van Gaal’s side so far this season.
He will be hoping to feature when the Red Devils take on Watford in the Premier League on 21 November after the international break.
