Memphis Depay thanks Man United legend after Watford win

Memphis Depay thanks Ryan Giggs for his recent advice at Manchester United

Memphis Depay has paid tribute to Ryan Giggs for helping him keep focused after the Dutchman fired Manchester United to a 2-1 win at Watford on Saturday afternoon.

The Netherlands winger has endured a stuttering start to his career at United since joining the club from PSV Eindhoven during the summer transfer window.

Depay, 21, has found himself on the bench in recent games, but returned to the starting line-up for Saturday’s clash with the Hornets at Vicarage Road.

And the winger repaid Louis van Gaal’s faith in him by netting a sublime volley to put United ahead in the Premier League clash.

Depay has now scored two goals in nine top-flight appearances for Van Gaal’s men so far this season.

And the former PSV man paid tribute to United coach Giggs for helping him through his tough spell.

Depay told United’s website after Saturday’s win: “I think every young player goes through things but I keep training and enjoy the training sessions.

“The stuff [I am learning] has stuck with me and Ryan Giggs has given me good advice and I’ve been working on some things with him.

“You need that backing and you need to back yourself and train well, and of course all the help is great to get through difficult times.

“I’m happy to get the help of everyone and happy to play on Saturday to show that I can be important.”

United take on Depay’s old club PSV in the Champions League on Wednesday night.
