Morgan Schneiderlin says Manchester United need to beat Leicester City to acquire a psychological advantage ahead of the festive period.

The Red Devils can hoist themselves above current Premier League leaders Leicester if Louis van Gaal’s side are victorious against the Foxes at King Power Stadium in Saturday’s late kick-off.

The 20-time English champions have been in good form in the Premier League after a five-game unbeaten run since a humiliating 3-0 defeat by Arsenal at Emirates Stadium in October.

However, Claudio Ranieri’s Leicester side have won their last four Premier League games after victories over Crystal Palace, West Brom, Watford and Newcastle United.

Schneiderlin, who moved to United in the summer, explained why United need to be top of the Premier League table ahead of the hectic festive schedule.

“It’s very important to start this period on top of the table and carry on building confidence before games on Boxing Day and over Christmas,” Schneiderlin told MUTV.

“We know we can build on the strong back four, we aren’t going to concede many goals and it’s very good to be sure about a strength like this.

“If you want to win the league, you need strong foundations and a strong defence and that’s what we have. We want to take this game and win; we’ll make sure that Leicester find it difficult.”

The Red Devils were 2-1 winners against the Hornets in the Premier League at Vicarage Road last weekend.
