Jose Mourinho says he isn’t confident Chelsea captain John Terry will be fit to face Tottenham Hotspur at White Hart Lane on Sunday.
The 34-year-old had to be carried off on a stretched midway through the second half after the Chelsea centre-half suffered an ankle injury during Tuesday night’s 4-0 win at Maccabi Tel-Aviv.
Mourinho was critical of the pitch after Chelsea also lost Ramires to injury during a training session ahead of Tuesday night’s Champions League group-stage clash.
And the Chelsea manager played down the chance of the retired England international featuring against Mauricio Pochettino’s Tottenham side in Sunday’s derby.
“My medical department is really good. John is a special guy, with a special desire to recover,” Mourinho told his post-match media conference.
“But I don’t believe too much that he can play (against Spurs). Ramires slid on the pitch and had a muscular injury.”
The defending Premier League champions made the breakthrough in the 20th minute with a close-range finish to settle any Chelsea nerves before ex-Blues defender Tal Ben Haim was sent off.
