Nemanja Matic insists that he and his team-mates are ready to perform in the absence of Jose Mourinho during Saturday’s Premier League clash at Stoke City.

The Blues are set to be without their manager as the Portuguese coach serves a one-game stadium ban issued to him by the Football Association.

The suspension means that he will not be allowed to enter the ground on matchday and will be relying on his coaching staff to get the best out of his players at the Britannia Stadium.

And although midfielder Matic admits that it will be a strange occurence, the Serbia international is confident that the Blues can perform and secure victory against the Potters.

Matic is quoted as saying by the Guardian: “Of course it is more easy when the coach is on the bench and especially at half-time, when he can say something. But we also have other great coaches, and they will be prepared for everything, and we have to be ready for that.

“It’s going to be strange, of course. I think that I’m here almost two years and we have not played without a coach yet, so it is going to be strange, but this is football and we will be ready.

“Sometimes when the game stops and there is a foul, he shows with the hands and you know what you have to do.

“You can’t really hear him because there are 40,000 people here, and it’s difficult. Sometimes you hear him, and especially if you play on his side of the pitch.”

Chelsea head into Saturday’s game on the back of their 3-1 loss to Liverpool at Stamford Bridge last weekend. The Blues are currently 15th in the table and 14 points behind leaders Manchester City.
