Nemanja Matic urges Chelsea to keep their spirits high

Chelsea midfielder Nemanja Matic says the Blues have to keep their heads up and look to the future

Nemanja Matic says Chelsea have to keep their heads up after their seventh Premier League defeat.

The Blues slumped to a third successive top-flight loss after a 1-0 defeat by Mark Hughes’s Stoke City side at The Britannia on Saturday evening.

It isn’t easy to be where we are now, but we have to work hard to try to win the next game and try to catch the teams above us

Potters forward Marko Arnautovic scored a 52nd-minute winner as under-fire Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho served his one-game stadium ban.

Serbia international Matic urged 16th-placed Chelsea to look to the future as the defending Premier League champions look to improve their current position.

Matic told Chelsea’s website: “We weren’t happy to lose this game.

“We deserved more, we had some good chances but we didn’t score and in the end we lost, but we have to think about the next game. This game is done and we have to keep our heads up and think about our future. We have to work hard.

“It’s difficult. We are not used to being in this position in the table but this is football and this is life. Of course, it isn’t easy to be where we are now, but we have to work hard to try to win the next game and try to catch the teams above us.”

The defending champions have already lost seven times in 12 Premier League games this season.

Mourinho’s men have lost to West Ham United, bitter rivals Liverpool and Stoke City in their last three top-flight games.
