Matteo Darmian has revealed that he spends most of his free time relaxing with his girlfriend when he is not on duty for Manchester United.

The 25-year-old defender has been a regular fixture in Louis van Gaal’s first team since joining the Red Devils from Torino during the summer transfer window.

Darmian has already made 11 Premier League appearances for United to help them up to fourth place in the Premier League table and to within two points of leaders Manchester City after 12 games.

The Italy international has also featured twice in the Champions League for his new club.

And the defender’s swift adaptation on the pitch can possibly be attributed to his settled life away from the game.

Asked about what he is like away from football, Darmian told United’s website: “I am a very chilled person, maybe a little bit shy.

“I like spending my free time with my girlfriend, just hanging out together and going to the cinema or watching a film at home. I’m just the same as everybody else, really.”

Manchester United return to Premier League action with a trip to Watford after the international break on Saturday 21 November.
