Matteo Darmian has revealed that he “didn’t think twice” about joining Manchester United after learning of the Red Devils’ interest in him.

The Italy defender has been a regular fixture in the United first team this season since his summer transfer from Serie A side Torino.

And the 25-year-old admits that he did not take long to settle on the idea of a move to Old Trafford once he heard Louis van Gaal was keen to sign him.

Darmian told United’s website: “I used to watch the Premier League on television and it was well known that it was perhaps one of the best leagues in the world. So, when I got the call from United, I didn’t have to think twice about it at all.

“For me, it was a big step in my career and a really big opportunity personally that I didn’t want to let slip away. Of course, Manchester United are one of the biggest clubs, not just in England but the whole world, and, because of the history as well, all these factors made it an easy decision for me.”

The defender has already made 11 Premier League appearances for United to help them up to fourth place in the table and to within two points of leaders Manchester City after 12 games.

The Italy international has also featured twice in the Champions League for his new club.

United, who beat West Brom last weekend, return to Premier League action with a trip to Watford in the Premier League after the international break.
