Pablo Zabaleta delivers latest Man City injury update ahead of Liverpool clash
Manchester City defender Pablo Zabaleta is aiming to make a return to action against Liverpool on 21 November
Pablo Zabaleta says he is targeting a Manchester City return for the visit of Liverpool on 21 November.
The Argentina international has missed the Citizens’s last seven games due to a knee injury which forced the right-back off during their 6-1 victory over Newcastle United in October.
Former Arsenal defender Bacary Sagna has impressed in the full-back position in the absence of the South American as the Citizens cemented their spot at the top of the table.
However, Zabaleta is hopeful that he will be ready for a recall to the City side from manager Manuel Pellegrini when Liverpool make the trip to Etihad Stadium.
“I am doing OK, progressing well and trying to be fit for the visit of Liverpool after the international break. We’ll see how it goes in the next week or so,” Zabaleta is quoted as saying by Goal.com.
“At the moment the plan is to re-join the rest of the team next Monday so hopefully everything will go well and I’ll be available for our next game.”
The 30-year-old has made two Premier League appearances for the Citizens this season.
Sagna has played in 11 of City’s 12 top-flight games and has helped the leaders keep seven clean sheets.
The Citizens are level on points with Arsene Wenger’s Arsenal ahead of the visit of the Reds on 21 November.
