Paul Merson states his prediction for Liverpool v Swansea
Paul Merson is tipping Liverpool to ease to victory over Swansea at Anfield on Saturday
Paul Merson is expecting Liverpool to ease to a comfortable 3-0 victory over Swansea City at Anfield on Sunday afternoon.
The Reds secured an impressive 4-1 thrashing of Manchester City at Etihad Stadium last weekend before wrapping up a 2-1 win over Bordeaux at Anfield in the Europa League on Thursday night.
Liverpool head into Sunday’s clash at Anfield in ninth place in the Premier League table after having taken 20 points from their opening 13 games.
Swansea, meanwhile, are six points further back in 14th place in the top-flight table.
Merson admitted that his prediction of a Manchester City win in last week’s fixture could not have been more wrong.
So the former Arsenal star is fully expecting the Reds to secure another victory on Sunday as they continue to adapt to life under new manager Jurgen Klopp.
Merson told Sky Sports: “I got it horribly wrong last week with Liverpool. Jurgen Klopp did a job on Manchester City.
“But Liverpool have to get consistency. They’re not a bad team, but their consistency levels haven’t been great over the past 18 months. This is a game where they’ve got to win, and win quite comfortably.
“If they can start at a tempo like they did against City, they’ll be all over Swansea and rip them to shreds. They can’t let Swansea pass the ball about, but if they play anywhere near where they did last week, which was the performance of the week without doubt, they’ll steamroll them.
“The pressure on Garry Monk isn’t right. Where are they supposed to be? The most disappointing thing for them was losing to Hull in the Capital One Cup. He’s having a bad time, but every manager has a bad time, and you have to stick with them.”
Goals from James Milner and Christian Benteke secured victory for Liverpool in the Europa League on Thursday.
