Paul Merson says he is convinced Tottenham Hotspur will finish in the Premier League’s top four this season.

Mauricio Pochettino’s side are in fifth place in the Premier League table but a mere five points behind leaders Manchester City ahead of the visit of West Ham United on 22 November.

Tottenham drew 1-1 with bitter rivals Arsenal in last weekend’s north London derby after Kieran Gibbs cancelled out Harry Kane’s first-half opener at Emirates Stadium.

Former Arsenal playmaker Merson believes Tottenham are the real deal after having watched Spurs push Arsene Wenger’s second-placed Arsenal side at The Emirates.

“After watching Spurs at Arsenal I’m convinced they can do it. Not many teams go there and give Arsenal the runaround. Fair play to them. I thought they were outstanding. They surprised me,” Merson told Daily Star.

“Mauricio Pochettino is a top manager. I didn’t think he had the players there to play a pressing game. But he’s slowly brought players into the team who can do that. I’m impressed with them.

“They’ve got young players who haven’t played loads of football and they won’t tire like other teams.”

Tottenham have earned 20 points from a possible 36 after 12 Premier League.

The north London outfit haven’t suffered a defeat in the Premier League since a 1-0 reversal at Manchester United on the opening day of the season.
