Paul Merson: Why Man United will edge past West Brom on Saturday

Paul Merson tips Manchester United to claim a 1-0 victory over West Bromwich Albion at Old Trafford on Saturday

Paul Merson is backing Manchester United to secure a narrow victory over West Bromwich Albion at Old Trafford on Saturday afternoon.

Louis van Gaal’s men host the Baggies at Old Trafford looking to make it back to back wins at their home ground after their 1-0 triumph over CSKA Moscow in the Champions League in midweek.

Tuesday night’s win followed three successive goalless draws for the Red Devils, and Wayne Rooney’s winner came after 404 minutes of football without a goal for United.

However, former Arsenal star Merson is confident that the Red Devils have what it takes to beat the visitors on Saturday, and is backing United to claim a narrow 1-0 win at Old Trafford.

Merson told Sky Sports: “I watched West Brom go to Norwich a while back and they defended comfortably.

“Tony Pulis will have his team set up to be very difficult to beat and United will have to score early to stop the crowd getting on their backs.

“They will be looking for an early breakthrough, and things could get difficult for them. But I do expect them to get over the line and collect three points.”

United head into the game on the back of their goalless draw at Crystal Palace last weekend. The Red Devils are currently fourth in the table and four points behind leaders Manchester City.
