Paul Scholes reacts to Man United’s 0-0 draw with PSV Eindhoven
Paul Scholes runs the rule over Manchester United's disappointing 0-0 draw with PSV Eindhoven in the Champions League
Paul Scholes admitted that Manchester United were far from inspiring after they were held to a goalless draw by PSV Eindhoven in the Champions League on Wednesday night.
United pressed and dominated possession but struggled to threaten the visitors’ goal as they were forced to settle for a point.
Jesse Lingard fired their best chance of the game over the bar, while Morgan Schneiderlin saw a close-range shot saved.
The result leaves United’s Champions League hopes hanging in the balance – they will qualify for the last 16 if they beat group leaders Wolfsburg in their final game in Germany on 8 December.
And former United midfielder Scholes was not particularly impressed by what he saw from Louis van Gaal’s men on Wednesday night.
Scholes said on BT Sport: “It’s the story of the season really. It’s disappointing.
“I think they created chances here and there but nothing major. Jesse [Lingard] should score and that’s the game done.
“You have to win your home games if you’re going to qualify. They have a chance against Wolfsburg but I wouldn’t be relying on that.”
United return to Premier League action with a trip to leaders Leicester City on Saturday evening and head into the game knowing that a win would move them top of the top-flight table.
