Paul Scholes has singled out Jesse Lingard for special praise after Manchester United’s 1-0 Champions League win over CSKA Moscow on Tuesday night.
The 22-year-old’s cushioned pass set up Wayne Rooney for the striker to head home the winner in the 79th minute at Old Trafford as United secured victory to take a big step towards qualification for the last 16.
And former United midfielder Scholes was impressed by what he saw from Lingard on Wednesday night.
Scholes said on BT Sport: “You need to give them credit, Jesse Lingard deserves a special mention because everything good came through him tonight.
“I don’t think you can underestimate Jesse Lingard’s part in Rooney’s goal. What an unbelievable cushioned pass.”
Tuesday’s win left United one point clear at the top of their group heading into the final two games.
United now turn their attentions back to the Premier League and hosting West Bromwich Albion at Old Trafford on Saturday afternoon.
Van Gaal’s men, who were held to a goalless draw by Crystal Palace last weekend, head into the game in fourth place in the table and four points behind the leaders.
