Per Mertesacker has warned Tottenham Hotspur that Arsenal will be fully focused on bouncing back to winning ways when they host their local rivals at Emirates Stadium on Sunday.

Mertesacker was unable to prevent Arsene Wenger’s men from slumping to a disappointing 5-1 thrashing at the hands of Bayern Munich in the Champions League on Wednesday night as the Gunners were left on the brink of elimination from Europe’s elite club competition.

Wenger will now look to galvanise his players as they aim to turn their attentions back to the Premier League and continuing their fine domestic form.

Arsenal are currently second in the Premier League table and level on points with Manchester City after 11 games of the new campaign.

And Mertesacker is confident that the north London side will be able to quickly switch their focus back to domestic affairs this weekend.

Mertesacker told BT Sport: “That was difficult tonight, but we’ll learn from it as always, bounce back quickly on Sunday, switch off negative energy and fight back.”

And manager Wenger echoed the defender’s sentiments, adding in his news conference: “We now have to focus on the Premier League on Sunday and bounce back with a different performance because we are in a good position in the league. It’s important that we realise what we did today and we know that.”
