Per Mertesacker warns Arsenal to expect ‘angry’ Bayern Munich
Arsenal centre-half Per Mertesacker says Bayern Munich will want revenge for their defeat at The Emirates
Per Mertesacker has warned Arsenal to expect an angry Bayern Munich at Allianz Arena on Wednesday night.
The Gunners have been in brilliant form in the Premier League since their 2-0 victory over the Bundesliga champions at The Emirates in the Champions League group stage last month.
We showed that we can beat them, that’s a good sign but it will be a different game at their place. They are an outstanding in their league
The north London side have beaten Everton and Swansea City to extend their unbeaten Premier League run to five games after victories over Leicester City, Manchester United and Watford.
Bayern, however, dropped points for the first time this season after a goalless draw with Eintracht Frankfurt on Friday, although the German side do have 31 points from a possible 33.
Germany international Mertesacker says Arsenal will need to defend even better at Allianz Arena on Wednesday night.
“They will be angry,” Mertesacker is quoted as saying by Arsenal’s website.
“We were the first team who really challenged them and beat them. They will try to show they are better than us.
“We showed that we can beat them, that’s a good sign but it will be a different game at their place. They are an outstanding in their league.
“Both teams have a chance to go through to the knock-out stages, we improved our position with our last game against Bayern but we need to get something out of this game. We need to perform and defend even better.”
Arsenal are level on points with Premier League leaders Manchester City after 11 games.
The Gunners lost their opening two Champions League group-stage games before a 2-0 win against Bayern.
